After wrapping up the holiday season and settling into the new year, the Teams Free team is back at full speed delivering a new wave of improvements to help you stay organized, connected, and productive. January’s updates focus on thoughtful, everyday enhancements—from streamlined chat tools to meeting features that keep everyone on track—making it easier than ever to manage your conversations, plans, and routines. Let’s dive into what’s new.
Pinned chat messages
Teams Personal now lets you pin messages in any chat, making it easier for everyone to stay aligned. When you pin a message, it remains visible to all participants, ensuring key details—like important updates, links, or documents—don’t get lost as conversations move forward. This small but mighty improvement helps keep shared context front and center, reducing the need to scroll or search through the chat history to find essential information.

Timer in Teams meetings
Staying on track during meetings just got easier with the new Timer feature in Teams Free. You can now set a countdown directly from the meeting toolbar—perfect for time‑boxed discussions, focused work sessions, or quick breaks. Simply choose the duration, start the timer, and everyone in the meeting will see it running at the top of the screen. You can add more time, restart, or cancel with a single click, helping keep conversations efficient and ensuring the group stays aligned on pacing.
