Based on your preferences, you can set the Teams desktop app to automatically start with your computer, open in the background, or not start at all. To get notifications for new chat messages or incoming calls, the Teams app must be running, at least in the background. You have two settings to customize how the Teams app launches.
Option 1: Start the Teams app in the foreground
To ensure the Teams app opens automatically so you can use it immediately when your computer starts, you can set the following settings:
Option 2: Start the Teams app in the background
To prevent the Teams app from launching at startup while still receiving notifications for new chats and calls, you can set the app to start in the background. This setting is ideal for users who wish to stay informed about Teams notifications without the app opening actively on the screen. The configuration for this preference can be set like this:
Option 3: Do not start the Teams app automatically
This option may not be suitable for active Teams users because you will not receive notifications for new chat messages or incoming calls if the Teams app is not open. However, if you prefer to manually manage when the Teams app operates, you can stop it from launching automatically by deselecting both options:
