More hidden gems in Teams for personal use

Following our earlier blog post about lesser-known features in Teams for personal use, this post will show you more capabilities that you might have missed, and that are very handy. Keep reading, discover new tips and give them a go today!

Join a Teams meeting with the Meeting ID

Sometimes you may have a Meeting ID and passcode instead of a meeting link to join Teams meetings. Or the meeting link you have may not work or may open only in browser when you prefer to use the Teams app. You can also join a Teams meeting with the Meeting ID and passcode if you have them like this:

Desktop and web

To join a Teams meeting with the Meeting ID and passcode, open your Teams app and select the Calendar tab. Then select the ‘Join with an ID’ button at the top of the screen.

Enter the Meeting ID and passcode to join the Teams meeting.

Mobile

To join a Teams meeting with the Meeting ID and passcode, open your Teams app and select the Calendar tab.

Enter the Meeting ID and passcode to join the Teams meeting.

Announcements in communities

You can make a regular post or an announcement in your community. Announcements have extra options for a banner image and a sub-title to make them more noticeable. This is great when you want a lot of people to see the new post. You can also use Microsoft Designer to create a beautiful banner image for the announcement if you don’t have one.

Choose ‘Announcement’ for a new post in your community.

Write a headline, choose or create a banner image, and optionally add a subhead and write the message. You can also email the post to the community members by ticking the box ’Also notify via email’.

Channels in communities

If your community is very busy and has a lot of new content, you might want to create channels in your community to group related conversations together. For example, you can have channels for Announcements or Q & A. Or you can have a channel for notes or documents from meetings. You can use channels the same way as the general channel in your community, write new posts and reply to the existing ones. You can have up to 5 channels in your community besides the general channel, which is always there by default.
