2024 Year in Review | Teams for Personal Use

As we look back on 2024, we are filled with immense gratitude for our vibrant and growing community of users who rely on Teams to connect and collaborate with anyone, anytime. Your feedback, suggestions, and enthusiasm have been the driving force behind the incredible journey we’ve had over the past year. From launching and enhancing features based on your input to unifying all Teams accounts (work, school, and personal) into a single desktop app, our goal has been to continuously improve and make the free version of Teams even better and more powerful. Join us as we celebrate the milestones, updates, and all the ways we’ve grown together in 2024!

January

In January, we introduced community-specific nicknames, made it easier to find contacts on desktop, and enhanced the mobile communities feature with a channels tab and personalized community banners. Read more

February

In February, we launched a revamped Photos tab in communities, enabling users to easily locate all photos shared within a community. Read more

March

In March, the Community Bot feature was introduced, which sends a personalized welcome message to new members joining the community. Additionally, background noise suppression was added for meetings, and website links can now be included in community descriptions on mobile devices. Read more

April

In April, the Calendar tab in Teams for personal use on mobile was redesigned to make it easier to create meeting links, as well as schedule and join meetings. Read more

May

In May we established the new Teams Insider Community. This community is designed for Teams users who seek greater engagement, up-to-date information on the latest developments, direct interaction with product teams, and awareness of user research opportunities. Read more

June

In Teams meetings on desktop, we introduced quick access to camera and audio settings. The search functionality in Teams for personal use was also enhanced to more effectively encompass community content. Furthermore, the new unified Teams desktop application was launched on Windows 10 and Mac. Read more

July

In July, we launched the new, unified Teams app, combining work, school, and personal accounts in a single desktop application. Read more

August

In August, several community improvements were released on desktop: conversation pinning, Files tab, customizable community banner, and website link. On Windows, users can now choose a custom notification sound. Additionally, on desktop, users can view LinkedIn profile cards for their contacts in Teams for personal use and pop out meeting content during a Teams meeting. Read more

September

The rollout of the refreshed and redesigned desktop experience was completed in September. Additionally, community owners can now be easily identified by specific community owner badges in communities. Read more

October

The feature for configuring device settings in Teams for personal use on desktop was released in October, allowing users to set up their devices prior to a Teams meeting. Automatic translation of community messages became available on mobile, and there were updates to the Photos tab on desktop. Read more

November

In November, we introduced an improved meeting join screen for Teams, designed to streamline the process of joining meetings by allowing you to prepare all necessary settings in advance. Read more

 

December

In December, we rolled out two exciting new features on desktop: a Meet tab for easy access to create, schedule, and join Teams meetings, and video filters to make Teams meetings more fun. Read more
